Water Jet Cutting

Ceramics & Glass

Ceramics fall in to one of two categories. Those made from clay, which are relatively easy to machine depending on the geometry required and can cut at fairly fast speeds. Others are made from synthetics or Alumina and these usually cut at much slower speeds.

We regularly cut ceramics of both types. For custom work we recommend providing a sample of the material whenever possible so that we can determine the precise cut condition required and ensure our client is happy with the cut condition before proceeding to provide a firm quote.

Glass can be quite difficult to cut. It is important to keep the glass substrate free of scratches or chips as these can lead to difficulties in cutting and lead to breakages. Our OMAX® jet machining system is able to be set for machining brittle materials and pierce at low pressure and then switch to high pressure once the pierce is complete.
