Water Jet Cutting
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is very easy to cut using abrasive water jet machining technology. The addition of chromium and nickel in varying amounts to provide corrosion resistance does not really affect cutting and all grades of material can be cut.
Advantages:
- Unlike other machining processes such as laser, plasma or flame cutting because abrasive water jet machining is a cold cutting system it does not cause a heat affected zone. This allows cutting without changing the specific heat treatment of the steel being cut.
- The absence of burn marks associated with laser, plasma or flame cutting may make abrasive water jet machining a better option.
- Thicker materials, difficult to cut on a laser, but requiring more accuracy than can be produced with a plasma or flame cutting system are easily machined with abrasive water jet machining.
- Very thick materials over 2 inches where other systems such as laser or plasma just can’t cut it
